Madeline Rae Bennett

It had been only a week since Maddie last spoke to her. Cassie’s final conversation was filled with strange urgency: a curse, an amulet, dreams that bled into waking hours. Their mother had told her to endure it, though Maddie never understood what “it” was. The words lingered, unanchored and uneasy.

When her mother called with the news, Maddie returned to Boston. The house seemed smaller, colder, as if all sound had been drawn into the walls. Gwendolyn said little. She looked older than Maddie remembered, her stoicism now a shell against grief.

That visit marked the end of her ordinary life. The questions her family had buried began to surface, one by one.

And that is where the record ends, and Legacy of the Eye begins.
